Corporate card spending is rebounding says American Express, which announced its first quarter earnings were up 103 percent from USD 437 million last year to USD 885 million.
The biggest turnarounds in spending came from corporate card members and banks that issue cards on the AmEx network. The global credit card company’s corporate travel sales accounted for USD 4.1 billion, an increase of about 20 percent on the same quarter last year.
On Monday, Singapore Airlines announced it had cleared its backlog of passengers stranded in Australia, following the shut down of European airspace after the Icelandic volcanic eruption. In a statement, Singapore Airlines said affected passengers were either safely en route to their intended destinations or booked on a flight to travel at their earliest convenience.

As airlines struggled to cope with flight backlogs and stranded passengers due to the volcano ash cloud, Malaysia’s low-cost carrier AirAsia was quick to target an unexpected group of potential passengers. On April 21, the airline launched a five-day promotion for other airlines’ Europe-bound passengers stranded in Asia.

Singapore’s Tiger Airways will fly to Tiruchirappalli (TRZ), its third destination in India, from November. The low-cost carrier is also increasing flights to Chennai (MAA), from 11 times weekly to twice daily and will continue to fly to Bangalore (BLR) five times a week.
