Bangkok Stand-off Impacts Business

On Tuesday, anti-government protestors in Bangkok defied a government ban to march along 11 key routes in the Thai capital. This followed brief skirmishes between protestors and riot police outside the Four Seasons Bangkok; the first clashes since the protests by the red-clad United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship began about three weeks ago.

Continental Re-launches Hong Kong–Guam

Continental Airlines re-launched its non-stop service to Guam (GUM) from Hong Kong (HKG) on April 2. The twice-weekly direct flight will depart from Hong Kong every Monday and Friday.

Starwood Opens 1,000th Hotel

On April 1, Starwood Hotels & Resorts opened its 1,000th hotel on Qiandao Lake in a national forest park in Zhejiang province. The 250-room Sheraton Qiandao Lake Resort is located 140 km outside Hangzhou.

SIA Adds Munich Route

Singapore Airlines’ launched a new five-times-weekly service to Munich (MUC) and Manchester (MAN) from Changi International Airport (SIN) on March 29. Munich is Singapore Airlines’ second destination in Germany after Frankfurt (FRA), which is served with two daily flights, one of which carries on to New York (JFK).

India’s First Re-branded Holiday Inn

InterContinental Hotels Group has opened its first re-branded Holiday Inn in India. The Holiday Inn Mumbai International Airport is part of IHG’s USD 1 billion global re-branding exercise launched in 2007 across 3,200 Holiday Inn properties and 430,000 rooms.

Jet Airways, Gulf Air Codeshare

India’s Jet Airways has signed a codeshare agreement with Bahrain’s national carrier Gulf Air. From April 12, Jet Airways will place its flight code on all Gulf Air-operated flights between Bahrain (BAH) and Mumbai (BOM), Delhi (DEL), Chennai (MAA), Kochi (COK) and Thiruvananthapuram (TRV).
