Macau Civil Aviation Authority has revoked Viva Macau’s air operator certificate after a weekend of chaos at Macau’s international airport (MFM). The 3-year-old budget carrier is no longer allowed to sell tickets or operate flights. Viva Macau was forced to stop flying on March 26 when fuel companies refused to fuel aircraft unless outstanding charges were settled.
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will operate the first direct air service between the Chinese city of Hangzhou (HGH) and Europe from May 8. The service will connect Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS) and Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport.

Hotels across the region switched off lights and lit up candles as part of a series of eco-themed events, timed to coincide with Earth Hour on March 27. More than 2,500 buildings and companies in Hong Kong participated in the event, started three years ago by the World Wildlife Fund.

Travellers to Yogyakarta in Indonesia will be the first to experience the new biometric border control system being rolled out at 27 of the country’s air and seaports. The city’s Adisucipto International Airport (JOG) will use a system called SITA iBorders that takes travellers’ fingerprints and facial images.

Japan Airlines has new codeshare agreements with Australia's Jetsar Airways and fellow oneworld alliance member British Airways. From April 1, JAL will codeshare on Jetstar-operated flights between Osaka (KIX) and Cairns (CNS), a new daily service commencing the same day.

French hotel group Accor’s Sofitel Luxury Hotels brand has signed two new management contracts for properties in China. On Hainan the 398-room Sofitel Haikou will open in 2014 in the capital and financial centre of the island opposite the Duty Free Mall, which is Hainan’s only duty-free shopping centre.
