Air Travel in China Soars

Air China and other Chinese carriers are expected to handle a total of 260 million passengers this year, up more than 13 percent from 2009. Thanks to injections of funds from the Chinese government, carriers including China Eastern Airlines and China Southern Airlines were back in the black during 2009. Domestic air travel and business travel also recovered quickly in China.

Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts launched a multilingual user-friendly mobile website that allows guests to reserve, modify or cancel a booking with real-time availability. Members of Shangri-La's guest recognition programme, Golden Circle, can use their profiles for quicker reservations.

Continental Airlines Resumes Guam Flights 

Continental Airlines will resume non-stop flights from Hong Kong (HKG) to Guam (GUM) from April 2, subject to government approval. The direct flight will be operated twice-weekly by Continental Micronesia utilizing its fleet of Boeing 737-800 aircraft, each with a total of 155 seats, including 14 business-class seats and 141 coach-class seats.

Best Western has opened its first hotel in Laos. Enjoying a prime location in the capital city Vientiane, it is the first property in the chain’s plans for a network of hotels in Laos. The 44-room Best Western Vientiane’s facilities include a restaurant serving a variety of local dishes as well as Western cuisine, a fitness room, a swimming pool, a business centre and complimentary Internet.

Air New Zealand is to increase capacity by 30 percent on flights to ski resort area Queenstown (ZQN) from Auckland (AKL), Sydney (SYD), Melbourne (MEL) and Brisbane (BNE). The southern hemisphere ski season and additional flights will start in April.
