India Clarifies Tourist Visa Rules

The Indian government has released official clarification of its new rules for tourist visas. The new rule required all visitors travelling on any tourist visa, even a multiple-entry visa, to leave a two-month gap between visits to India.

The two-month provision threatened to cause problems for tourists using India as a base to explore neighbouring countries and other destinations in Asia. The Indian government said these strict measures were introduced to curb the misuse of tourist visas in India. The United States and United Kingdom were among the countries that issued diplomatic protests.

Beijing, Seoul Hit By Worst Snow For Decades

Heavy snow has caused delays and cancellations and airports in China and South Korea at the start of the new year. According to China’s Central Meteorological Administration up to 12 inches of snow fell in Beijing during the first weekend of 2010, which is the largest January snowfall in 50 years. Temperatures fell to minus 16 degrees Celsius on Jan. 4.

The 686-room Gran Melia has 30 floors making it the tallest free-standing hotel in the city.

Singapore Airlines customers can now use their mobile phones to book flights and access selected KrisFlyer services include viewing of statements, and checking miles earned and redeemed. These new services are in addition to the current SIA Mobile check-in facility, that allows customers to check in for flights using selected Internet-enabled mobile phones, BlackBerry and iPhone devices.
