Latest figures released by the Pacific Asia Travel Association show that the numbers of international visitors to the Asia Pacific region increased by a marginal 0.5 percent during August compared to August 2008. However, the overall figures for the first eight months of the year show that international visitor arrivals are down by some 5 percent.

Continental Airlines’ first aircraft with its new flat-bed BusinessFirst seats has started operating on the Hong Kong (HKG)–New York (EWR) route. The Boeing 777, used on long-haul international routes, is the first aircraft type in Continental’s fleet to receive the new seats.

In a bid to improve profitability and reduce costs, Japan Airlines has announced that it will cut eight international and eight domestic routes in the next few months. Flight frequency on two international routes will also be reduced, one cargo route will be discontinued and six offices will be closed in Japan, China and Mexico.
