Since charter flights between Taiwan and the Chinese mainland commenced in July 2008, 1.6 million passengers have flown directly across the Taiwan Straits, according to the Civil Aeronautics Administration in Taipei. Passengers and carriers on both sides of the straits are now looking ahead to the launch of scheduled services this summer.
